Almost All Libraries Offer Free Web Access

Nearly all libraries around the country have free public Internet access and an increasing number are offering wireless connections. "U.S. public libraries have gained a tremendous amount of headway as it relates to connectivity and access," said John Carlo Bertot, one of the study's authors. "The challenge lies in ensuring that libraries continue to get the support they need to provide necessary improvements to the technology."

The study also reported that almost 40 percent of public libraries filter public Internet access to prevent minors from gaining access to sexually related materials. State library systems in Georgia and West Virginia put filters on all public libraries, the study reported.

India had long back started providing free access to web for its library members. But the security for the machines still needs to be put in check. "Knowledge is Wealth".
